The Lionel 31727 Rio Grande Freight Train Set was first introduced in 1957 and is a train set sought after by Lionel Postwar-era collectors. Each car is a reissue of the original. This set includes: a 2379P Rio Grande F3 Powered A-Unit, a 2379C Rio Grande F3 Non-Powered B-Unit, a 3444 Erie Animated Gondola, a 3530 EMD Generator Car, a 3562-75 Santa Fe Barrel Car, a 6464-525 Minneapolis & St. Louis Boxcar, a 6657 Rio Grande Caboose and a 2379T Rio Grande F3 Non-Powered A-Unit.
The 2379P Rio Grande F3 Powered A-Unit and the 2379C Rio Grande F3 Non-Powered B-Unit Locomotive has the following features: TrainMaster Command Control equipped—able to run in Command Control Mode or in Conventional Transformer Control Mode, RailSounds sound system with CrewTalk communication and TowerCom announcements, Directional lighting including operating headlight on A-unit and back-up light on B-unit, Front ElectroCoupler on A-unit and rear ElectroCoupler on B-unit, Dual powerful Pullmor motors, Magne-Traction track gripping system, Traction tires, Die-cast metal trucks, pilots and frames, Lighted cab interior, Engineer figures and Postwar Celebration Series plaques and packaging.
The Rio Grande Freight Rolling Stock has the following features: Die-cast metal trucks and operating couplers, 3444 Erie Animated Gondola features figures moving around a load via a powerful maintenance-free motor with ON/OFF switch, 3530 EMD Generator Car features an internal rotating fan, opening doors, metal frame, detachable telephone pole and searchlight, 3562-75 Santa Fe Barrel Car features a figure unloading barrels at the touch of a button (Remote Control Track required not included), a metal barrel channel, six wooden barrels and an unloading bin, 6464-525 Minneapolis & St. Louis Boxcar features sprung trucks, opening doors and a metal frame, 6657 Rio Grande Caboose features interior lighting, a metal frame, ladders, toolboxes and smokestack, Postwar Celebration Series plaques and packaging and each car is Individually boxed.
